Children's Story: by

I told a little fib today,
and knew right from the start,
that it would grow into a lie,
it felt wrong in my heart.

I said that I felt very sick
and could not go to school,
I should've known that mom and dad
were not that easily fooled.

The real reason for this lie
I think that You should know,
is 'coz I hate arithmetic
and didn't want to go.

There is a test in math today
in which I'm far behind,
that's why I'm writing You, my friend,
to get this off my mind.

I'm too afraid to ask for help
for fear they'll think I'm dumb,
I really don't know where to turn
to get my answers from.

I thought that You could help me
or at least give me a clue,
of how to tell my parents
that I broke a golden rule.

I'll finish up this letter,
footsteps on the stairs I hear,
my mom and dad are coming up--
and punishment is near.

I'll end this with a thank you,
and I hope we'll talk again,
I'm sorry for the lie I told...
Sincerely,
Your good friend.

P.S.
I'm back again to tell You
that my mom and dad knew why,
I didn't want to go to school
and that I told a lie.

They said that they would help me learn
for I am only seven,
if I promise not to fib again...
can I still get to Heaven?
